The Role: ISOC Engineer Tier 2
- Location: Horwich, Bolton (BL6 6HG)
- Reports To: ISOC Tier 2 Team Leader

- Shifts: 24/7 Rota (including nights, weekends, and bank holidays – detailed shift pattern provided)
Over a 6-week pattern they will work the following:-
- 2 x Early shifts – 06:00 – 14:30
- 2 x Evening Shifts – 14:00 – 22:00
- 1 x night shifts – 22:00 – 06:00
Weekends are slightly different:-
- 1x 06:00 – 18:00
- 1x 18:00 – 06:00
Clearance: British Citizenship required (due to client vetting); NPPV3 clearance desirable
You’ll be working in our clients’ Secure Operations Centre (ISOC) delivering second-line support for managed service customers. This is a hands-on technical role, resolving incidents across networks, firewalls, and infrastructure while supporting a secure and stable service. You’ll be exposed to a wide variety of technologies and be expected to pursue vendor accreditations as part of your development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 2nd line remote support to managed services customers
- Troubleshoot and resolve network, firewall, and connectivity incidents
- Work independently without constant supervision
- Monitor customer infrastructure using system toolsets
- Liaise with customers to understand and resolve service-affecting issues
- Contribute to ongoing service improvement
- Use downtime for technical self-study and vendor certification
- Participate in a 24/7 shift rota (including nights and weekends)
The Candidate
You’re a capable second-line support engineer, ideally with at least 1 year in a SOC/NOC, or a recent IT graduate looking for hands-on experience in a secure environment.
Technical Experience:
- 1 year in IT services (or relevant IT degree)
- Familiar with routers, switches, firewalls, and wide area networking
- Awareness of vendor products like Cisco, Check Point, Aruba, Juniper, Extreme
- Understanding of IT security and secure infrastructure is an advantage
- Comfortable working in a shift-based, high-availability environment
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication (written and verbal)
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple incidents
- Motivated, curious, and committed to upskilling
- Professional and customer-focused approach
- Able to take initiative and follow through on issues to resolution
Certifications:
- Industry certifications desirable (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, Aruba)
- Must be willing to train and certify as part of role progression
