Key focus areas

A Senior Data Platform Engineer will deliver innovative, creative and reliable data platform solutions that stand out on a global scale whilst helping businesses to become more efficient and provide a better service. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Leading the design, implementation, testing, support and maintenance of Data Platform solutions
• Ensuring that both yourself, and the wider Group through knowledge sharing, are across both emerging and existing technologies to apply them to develop the right solutions
• Bring together a variety of technologies to apply existing knowledge to new problems
• Work directly with customers to identify new opportunities and map out enhancements to existing solutions that meet business needs

Key responsibilities

• Work directly with the customer to scope out and deliver maintainable, well tested solutions that leverage cloud technologies where possible
• Lead and manage data platform projects end to end, working both independently and/or leading a team to meet project requirements
• Provide sound technical support to clients for common and complex data platform issues, while identifying opportunity for technical improvements
• Lead, design and apply data platform architecture patterns to projects and solutions
• Identify and resolve technical and architectural issues
• Proactively seek out and learn emerging technologies, explore new and innovative use cases and build collective knowledge across the Team
• Ensure you have a clear understanding of Group values and related behaviours; and practice these in everything you do.
• Drive a positive culture at Group, leading by example with values behaviours and holding fellow team members accountable for embodying them.
• Develop and improve data platform solutions and related development lifecycles, using best practices and a DevOps mindset
• Provide appropriate documentation with any deliverables
• Deliver workshops to clients to upskill them and support with the uptake of new technologies, while identifying opportunities for improvements in workshop design and delivery
• Actively contribute to best practice and continual improvement at Group
• Act as a leader and coach for technical staff across Group to ensure team members are meeting their project and customer goals as well as their personal development goals
• Proactively highlight issues & provide potential solutions and mitigations throughout the project
• Understand and implement solutions outside of data platforms that may interact with developed solutions
• Maintain a professional attitude and work effectively in high pressure situations (including when unprepared) and continue to make effective decisions
• Other technical duties as required

Key skillset required

To be successful in this role, you will require:

• Ideally 5 years development experience developing data platform and reporting solutions in production
• A degree in Information Technology (or related field)
• A breadth of experience in various current cloud technologies and applications
• In-depth experience with various source systems control and testing frameworks and related methodologies
• Experience leading project and project teams end to end
• Proficiency in explaining complex technical architecture and solutions to non-technical audiences
• Ability to identify when issues need to be communicated and/or escalated (in both yourself and others)
• Eager to proactively learn and apply new technologies (both within and outside of your field) and to share those learnings with the wider technical team
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and manage conflicting priorities
• Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to work with clients from varying backgrounds
• Ability to accurately scope projects and provide recommendations for the client
• An understanding of common and complex development lifecycles and experience applying DevOps practices
• Outstanding interpersonal skills with the confidence to workshop solutions directly with customers and ability to work through complex customer interactions
• A strong understanding of local privacy obligations and ability to proactively identify and mitigate security threats
