Senior Developer

We are seeking a Senior Developer to join an early-stage technology team working on real-time chemical monitoring systems. This is a 6-month contract role with strong potential to transition into a permanent position for the right candidate.

This is a foundational engineering role where you will take ownership of core product development, working closely with external technical specialists and stakeholders.

As the first in-house developer, you will be responsible for building and shaping the core technical platform. You will connect industrial sensor systems to a cloud-based infrastructure and develop the user-facing application layer that enables real-time insights into chemical system behaviour.

You will work alongside external engineers supporting complex domain-specific challenges, while owning day-to-day product development and delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing backend services in Python
• Integrating sensor data into an AWS-based cloud platform
• Building and maintaining a frontend application (React Native preferred, open to alternatives)
• Developing real-time data workflows and APIs
• Translating technical requirements into scalable software solutions
• Contributing to architecture decisions and product direction
• Estimating, planning, and delivering features independently

We are looking for a confident and capable developer who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building from the ground up.

You will likely succeed in this role if you have:

• Strong experience with Python development
• Experience working with AWS or similar cloud environments
• Frontend development experience (React Native preferred, but not essential)
• Ability to work autonomously in a lean, early-stage environment
• Confidence to challenge assumptions and contribute technical opinions
• Strong estimation and delivery discipline
• Comfort working as a senior individual contributor / first engineering hire

This is a highly autonomous role where you will be expected to take ownership and drive outcomes with minimal structure.

• Contract: 6 months (with strong potential to convert to permanent)
• Compensation: Flexible depending on experience

  • Permanent equivalent: 140,000 – 160,000 flexibility for the right candidate
