About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an Engineering and Technology team working on advanced sustainable AI infrastructure developments across Australia. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to the design, delivery, commissioning, and operational support of next-generation data centre facilities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing high-performance, energy-efficient mechanical systems that support the future growth of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.
About the Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle, from early concept design through to commissioning and ongoing optimisation.
You will specialise in mechanical systems within a data centre MEP environment, collaborating with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and internal engineering teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical engineering designs and technical documentation from concept stage through to commissioning.
- Support the selection, engagement, and management of engineering consultants, contractors, and delivery partners.
- Perform engineering calculations and develop mechanical system solutions for complex infrastructure projects.
- Review consultant designs, contractor submissions, workshop drawings, and equipment selections.
- Provide technical input into equipment selection, including capacity, performance, reliability, and efficiency requirements.
- Support the preparation and review of Operations & Maintenance documentation.
- Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with design documentation, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Participate in commissioning activities, system testing, and performance optimisation.
- Develop engineering standards, design guidelines, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support research and development activities focused on improving system efficiency and reliability.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, helping develop technical capability within the team.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in data centre infrastructure and complex mechanical systems.
You will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years’ engineering experience, including at least 5 years within the data centre MEP sector.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and HVAC systems.
- Experience applying international engineering standards, including ASHRAE.
- Understanding of Asia-Pacific data centre standards and industry practices (highly regarded).
- Experience delivering mechanical systems through design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
- High attention to detail with a focus on design accuracy, documentation, and testing.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary and multicultural engineering teams.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative environment.
- A proactive approach with the ability to adapt to evolving project requirements.
Additional Information
- Location: Australia
- Travel: Approximately 10–30%, primarily during project delivery and commissioning phases.
This is an opportunity for a passionate mechanical engineer to contribute to innovative, sustainable infrastructure projects shaping the future of AI and high-performance computing.
