Senior Data Engineer / Engineering Lead Microsoft Fabric

Pearson Carter is recruiting for a critical public sector data project in Wellington. Youll help turn an existing Microsoft Fabric platform into reliable, governed data products, with the opportunity to shape the engineering patterns used as the platform grows.

Responsibilities

Build 12 production-ready data products, from ingestion through to business-ready datasets.

Develop ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines and PySpark notebooks.

Apply Bronze, Silver and Gold Medallion Architecture patterns across OneLake, Lakehouses and Data Warehouses.

Work with the Data Architect and Metadata Lead to implement lineage, security and governance through Microsoft Purview.

Review platform readiness and help establish practical engineering standards for future delivery.

Experience

Youll need hands-on experience delivering solutions in Microsoft Fabric, along with strong PySpark, T-SQL and Python skills. You should be comfortable designing ingestion patterns, building Delta Lake data models and working within a complex enterprise environment.

Experience with Microsoft Purview, Matillion, dimensional modelling or public sector data projects would be valuable. You dont need to meet every preferred requirement if you can demonstrate strong Fabric delivery experience.

Salary

Package details will be discussed based on experience and the engagement arrangement.

Location

Wellington-based candidates only. An immediate part-time start, progressing to full-time work, is preferred.
