Senior DevOps / Systems Engineer up to 80,000 Fully Remote
Pearson Carter are working with a growing and innovative technology business that is strengthening its engineering function with the appointment of an experienced Senior DevOps / Systems Engineer.
Youll take ownership of a range of critical infrastructure and platform services, helping to ensure the reliability, security and performance of a live AWS environment. The position is highly hands-on, covering cloud infrastructure, automation, monitoring, security, CDN/WAF technologies and deployment pipelines.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional looking for a technically varied role with genuine ownership and responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation, reliability and ongoing development of AWS production infrastructure
- Build, manage and optimise cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, primarily Terraform and Ansible
- Configure, maintain and enhance CDN and Web Application Firewall solutions across Akamai and Cloudflare
- Develop, maintain and troubleshoot CI/CD processes supporting software engineering teams
- Administer and optimise key infrastructure services including nginx, Redis and OpenSearch/Elasticsearch
- Use monitoring and observability platforms including Zabbix, AWS CloudWatch, Pingdom and New Relic to identify and resolve issues
- Lead investigations into production incidents, carrying out root-cause analysis and implementing preventative improvements
- Develop automation and tooling with Python and Bash to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes
- Work closely with development and technical teams to improve system availability, performance and resilience
- Contribute to infrastructure improvements, security initiatives and general platform engineering projects
- Take part in a shared 24/7 on-call rota and provide support for critical infrastructure incidents
Experience:
- At least 5 years' experience working within DevOps, Infrastructure or Systems Administration positions
- Extensive hands-on experience administering Linux systems in a live production environment
- Strong understanding of AWS infrastructure and cloud architecture, including EC2, VPCs and load balancing
- Practical experience managing web and application infrastructure such as nginx, Apache and Redis
- Good knowledge of relational database technologies including MariaDB, PostgreSQL and AWS RDS
- Proven ability to develop and maintain infrastructure through Terraform
- Experience supporting and managing OpenSearch or Elasticsearch environments
- Confident writing automation and operational tooling using Python and Bash
- Previous experience working with CDN and WAF technologies, with Akamai experience particularly desirable
- Solid understanding of modern CI/CD practices and experience supporting deployment pipelines
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively during production incidents
- Comfortable working collaboratively with development, infrastructure and wider technical teams
Salary
They offer a strong salary of up to 80,000, plus a strong benefits package.
Location
This is a fully remote position, based in the UK.
The role includes participation in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule, currently two weeks in every four, moving to two weeks in every six once the successful candidate is fully established in the role.
