Senior Full Stack React/.NET Developer

Pearson Carter is working with an established organisation that is continuing to grow its internal technology and engineering teams. As part of this ongoing expansion, they are seeking a Senior Full Stack React/.NET Developer to join their Buying & Merchandising technology division.

The successful developer will play an important role in building, maintaining and evolving software that supports a range of core commercial processes, including product and catalogue management, procurement, inventory, pricing, promotions and sales analysis. The position offers the opportunity to work across both frontend and backend development, using technologies including C#, .NET, SQL Server, Entity Framework Core, React and TypeScript.

You'll be working within a modern engineering landscape that incorporates cloud technologies, distributed systems, microservices and containerised platforms. Development is organised around small, self-sufficient teams operating collaboratively through Kanban. The teams place a strong focus on clean engineering practices, automated testing, code quality, peer collaboration and continuous delivery.

This opportunity would be well suited to an experienced full stack engineer who enjoys taking ownership of technically challenging work and contributing across the development lifecycle. You'll also have the opportunity to influence technical decisions, share your knowledge and support the growth of other members of the engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain and improve full stack applications using C#, .NET, React and TypeScript.
• Develop technology solutions supporting commercial functions such as merchandising, purchasing, inventory, pricing, promotions and sales.
• Work with a mixture of legacy/monolithic platforms alongside newer distributed and microservice architectures.
• Design and implement asynchronous and event-driven functionality using messaging technologies including RabbitMQ, MassTransit and Azure Service Bus.
• Create robust REST APIs and dependable backend services with a focus on maintainability and performance.
• Develop, package and deploy applications within containerised environments using Docker and Kubernetes on Microsoft Azure.
• Help maintain and enhance automated build and deployment processes, including Jenkins-based CI/CD pipelines.
• Contribute to a strong engineering culture through code reviews, automated testing and collaborative development.
• Design and develop modern React interfaces, including solutions based around microfrontend architectures where appropriate.
• Use established Git practices to manage source code and support effective collaborative development.
• Work closely with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and turn them into practical software solutions.
• Analyse difficult technical problems, investigate root causes and implement appropriate solutions.
• Work within an iterative delivery model, regularly releasing functionality and using feedback to improve solutions.
• Support technical estimation, sprint planning and early-stage project discovery.
• Act as a technical resource for less experienced developers, providing guidance, feedback and knowledge sharing.
• Help shape development standards, engineering practices and processes across the wider team.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing systems, development workflows and overall engineering efficiency.

Experience

• 6 years of commercial software development experience using technologies such as C#, SQL, Entity Framework Core and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• At least 4 years of professional experience developing with React or another modern frontend framework.
• Strong full stack development background, with practical experience working across both frontend and backend technologies.
• Experience designing and developing distributed applications and working with messaging/event-driven architectures.
• Good knowledge of microservices and experience building and supporting systems based around this architectural approach.
• Strong track record of developing REST APIs and scalable server-side applications.
• Extensive experience with SQL Server and a solid understanding of relational database structures and data modelling.
• Experience working within teams that follow modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, continuous integration and peer review.
• Commercial experience with Docker and Kubernetes. Experience deploying or supporting workloads within Microsoft Azure would be beneficial.
• Understanding of Jenkins and automated CI/CD processes.
• Experience working with GitFlow or an equivalent branching and source control strategy.
• Strong problem-solving ability, with a methodical approach to investigating and resolving technical issues.
• Able to communicate technical concepts effectively with both technical colleagues and wider business stakeholders.
• Comfortable making pragmatic technical decisions while keeping commercial and business objectives in mind.
• Experience mentoring, coaching or supporting junior and mid-level developers would be advantageous.
• Previous involvement in technical estimation, planning or defining new development projects would be beneficial.
• Experience working within retail, e-commerce or another commercially focused environment would be advantageous.

Salary

Salary is dependent on experience and looking to go up to 85k.

Location

This is a remote role however there is an office based in London for quarterly meet ups.
