Software Engineer (Mid-Level) 35,00050,000 Hybrid, Leamington Spa

Pearson Carter are currently working with a successful, multi-channel retail organisation who are looking to expand their IT team with a talented Mid-Level Software Engineer.

The business is undergoing an exciting digital transformation, modernising its existing .NET applications and investing in cloud-based services and modern architectures. This role offers the opportunity to work across business-critical systems, developing APIs, backend services and integrations using technologies including TypeScript, Node.js and AWS.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and enhance business-critical applications as part of an ongoing digital transformation programme.
  • Build scalable applications, backend services and APIs using TypeScript, JavaScript and Node.js.
  • Design and maintain integrations between internal systems, databases and external services.
  • Contribute to the development of cloud-based solutions, microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Support and improve existing .NET applications while helping transition legacy systems towards modern service-based solutions.
  • Investigate production issues, identify root causes and implement reliable, long-term fixes.
  • Work with relational databases and SQL to support application functionality and data integration.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and initiatives to improve development practices.
  • Collaborate with the wider engineering team through Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, refinement and retrospectives.
  • Maintain high standards of software quality through unit testing, regression testing and effective validation.

Experience:

  • Strong programming skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, Node
  • Experience with .NET development.
  • Proven experience building and supporting production applications, APIs and backend services.
  • Understanding of relational databases, SQL and system integration.
  • Knowledge of API-led development and event-driven architecture.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, ideally AWS or Azure.
  • Experience using Git-based version control within a collaborative development team.
  • Ability to investigate and resolve issues within live production environments.
  • Experience working within an Agile software development team.
  • A strong testing mindset, with an emphasis on delivering reliable, maintainable code.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with AWS services, particularly serverless technologies such as Lambda.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native application development and microservices.
  • Exposure to containerisation and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging and observability tools such as Grafana.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Experience using GitLab and Jira.
  • Previous involvement in legacy application modernisation or distributed systems.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and problem-solving.

Salary

They offer a salary of 35,00050,000, alongside a comprehensive benefits package.

Location

The role offers hybrid working, with a minimum of one day per week required in the Leamington Spa office. This is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week.
