Software Systems Engineer Competitive Salary Bridgend, South Wales

Pearson Carter are currently working with a highly specialised engineering company that designs and manufactures laser-based machinery used for marking, stripping and processing electrical wire and cable. Their technology is used by organisations across industries including aerospace, defence, medical, automotive, rail, electronics and space.

With around 1,000 machines operating globally, their software ranges from long-established legacy systems through to the latest technology. They are now looking for a Software Systems Engineer to join their team in Bridgend and become a key technical contributor to their core software platform.

This is a particularly niche opportunity for someone who enjoys working close to hardware and solving complex problems within large, long-established codebases.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain and enhance VB.NET software within a Windows desktop environment
• Work closely with hardware and machinery to ensure software performs correctly within real-world systems
• Investigate and resolve software and machine issues, including unexpected problems in production environments
• Carry out bug fixing, system modifications and ongoing enhancements to existing products
• Develop bespoke software configurations to meet individual customer requirements
• Work with a large and established codebase spanning hundreds of libraries and multiple customer configurations
• Support the installation and maintenance of machinery at customer sites
• Liaise with customers, contractors and international teams to understand and resolve technical issues
• Contribute to the development of future software and control systems
• Produce technical documentation, testing procedures and system specifications as required

Experience:

• Strong commercial experience with VB.NET
• Experience developing software for a Windows desktop environment
• Experience working with hardware, machinery or control systems
• Strong software troubleshooting and debugging experience
• Experience working with large and complex codebases
• Comfortable maintaining and enhancing established/legacy software rather than exclusively working on greenfield projects
• Able to work effectively in environments where unexpected technical issues can arise
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with customers and technical teams
• Comfortable travelling to client sites when required, including occasional international travel

Desirable Experience:

• Experience working with lasers or laser-based machinery
• Experience with machine or motion control
• PLC experience
• Experience integrating software with hardware
• Previous engineering or industrial automation experience
• Experience working within aerospace, defence, medical, automotive, rail or other high-reliability industries

They offer a competitive salary, with the exact package currently being finalised, alongside a strong benefits package.

Location

This client has an office in Bridgend, South Wales, and theyre looking for someone to work on-site 5 days per week.

The role also involves travelling to customer locations when required, including international travel. Depending on the client and project, security/background checks may be required, particularly when working with defence and military customers.
